Forgiveness (TEXT) Trusting God’s Justice and Choosing Forgiveness
When those you love are hurt, the wound can cut even deeper than if it happened to you. Anger, sorrow, and the longing for justice can feel overwhelming. Yet God invites you to walk a different path, one marked by trust in His justice and the healing power of forgiveness.
This devotional journey will help you bring your pain to God, rest in His care, and step into the freedom that forgiveness makes possible.
Day 1: Bringing the Hurt to God
“Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee.”
Psalm 55:22
Devotional
When someone wounds the people you love, the pain can cut deeper than if it were your own. Anger rises, sorrow lingers, and a sense of helplessness can weigh heavily on your heart. Often the instinct is to push these emotions down and pretend they are not there. Yet unspoken pain does not disappear; it only grows heavier. God does not ask you to minimize or deny what has been done. He invites you to bring it all to Him.
Your grief, your anger, your questions, and even your feelings of injustice are safe in His presence. He is strong enough to hold what feels unbearable and tender enough to meet you with comfort. Bringing your hurt to God is not weakness but courage. It is choosing to let the One who knows you best carry the burden you cannot bear alone.
Prayer
Lord, I place before You the deep pain of what has been done to my loved ones. Hold my heart in Your care and remind me that You are near. Carry the weight I cannot carry alone, and help me trust that You are working even in this brokenness. Amen.
Day 2: Trusting God’s Justice
“Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”
Romans 12:19
Devotional
When someone harms the people you love, it can stir a fierce longing for justice. You may feel the weight of wanting to make things right or the ache of watching those you care for suffer. These emotions are real and deeply human. Yet God gently reminds us that ultimate justice does not rest in our hands. He alone sees every detail, every hidden motive, and every consequence. Nothing escapes His eyes, and nothing is forgotten in His timing.
Placing justice in God’s hands does not minimize the wrong that was done. Instead, it frees your heart from the heavy burden of carrying anger and revenge. God’s justice is perfect, far beyond what human hands could achieve. Trusting Him with this area allows you to rest, knowing that He is both righteous Judge and loving Father. As you release your need for control, you open the door for peace to settle in your heart, even when the situation feels unresolved.
Prayer
Lord, I give You the injustice and pain that weigh on my heart. Help me to trust that You see what I cannot and that Your justice is greater than mine. Free me from the burden of anger and give me peace as I rest in Your perfect care. Amen.
Day 3: Receiving God’s Grace
“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”
Ephesians 4:32
Devotional
Forgiveness is never easy, especially when the pain involves those you love most. It can feel impossible to loosen your grip on the anger or sorrow that has settled in your heart. Yet forgiveness is not something you are asked to create on your own. It begins with receiving God’s grace for yourself. Just as Christ has fully forgiven you, He offers you the strength and tenderness to extend that same mercy to others.
God’s grace is not about erasing the hurt or pretending the wrong never happened. His grace meets you in the very place of your wounds and lifts you from the weight of bitterness. When you receive His grace, it softens your heart, giving you the courage to forgive not because the other person deserves it but because you have been so deeply forgiven. In this exchange, you find freedom. His grace pours into your emptiness and empowers you to release what you were never meant to carry alone.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the gift of Your grace that covers all my sins. Help me to receive that grace deeply so I may have the strength to extend forgiveness. Fill the empty places in my heart with Your mercy and remind me that freedom begins with You. Amen.
